Press Release: Oyu Tolgoi awards its Ankle Bone Shooting team

– Oyu Tolgoi to provide 20 million MNT sponsorship and a full set of Ankle Bone Shooting equipment to the Ankle Bone shooting team-

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – The 'Oyu Tolgoi' Ankle Bone Shooting team, led by M.Dorjsuren took first place in the Mongolian National Naadam festival, on the 91st anniversary of the People’s Revolution. Cameron McRae, President and CEO of Oyu Tolgoi LLC met with nine members of the Oyu Tolgoi team to congratulate them on their win. He said: “The Ankle Bone Shooting game is a team sport. Our Ankle Bone Shooting team have demonstrated how each member supports each other and contributes to the team’s success. Here at Oyu Tolgoi, we also work on the team principle, congratulations.”

The Oyu Tolgoi CEO added that Oyu Tolgoi is very proud of the success of the Ankle Bone Shooting team. He announced the company will provide 20 million MNT sponsorship for the training of youth in the sport to achieve more success in the future.

The Ankle Bone Shooting team has been working with Oyu Tolgoi since 2011. This year, the Oyu Tolgoi team was formed and they began to participate in competitions. Already the team has won 5th place in the Aimag (provincial) championship and 4th place in the national championship.

To date, Oyu Tolgoi has spent 2 billion MNT on their Preservation and Protection of Cultural Heritage Programme. The programme implements protection plans for intangible cultural heritage including archeological and paleontological relics. Extensive work has contributed to the protection and restoration of intangible cultural heritage including long song, folk games, national sports, training and ensuring the passing down of these traditions to future generations. In addition, work has been planned and some already implemented, for the protection and cataloguing of man-made and natural cultural heritage sites and the restoration of ancient temples and monasteries.
