– World class mine aims to buy half its goods and services from Mongolian companies in 2013 –
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – Oyu Tolgoi is committed to developing a long term, reliable and economically beneficial national supply chain by working with and developing national suppliers.
The company undertakes many activities to support and develop national suppliers. In 2013, the company is planning a huge increase in the proportion of goods purchased within Mongolia. Oyu Tolgoi will aim to make 50 per cent of its total purchases in 2013 with Mongolian companies.
B.Serjmaa, manager of Oyu Tolgoi’s National Procurement department said: “A National Supplier is a company that is registered in Mongolia and is majority owned by Mongolian citizens. We have a wide programme of activities to help these national suppliers to develop the services that they can offer us. This year, we are planning to spend 50 percent of all our procurement spending with these Mongolian companies. We also aim to spend 36.4 billion MNT with suppliers based in the Umnugobi.”
Between 2010 and 2012, Oyu Tolgoi spent US$1.1 billion dollars or 1.4 trillion MNT with national suppliers. Last year alone, 1,131 Mongolian national companies supplied products and services for Oyu Tolgoi. These suppliers make up 67 percent of the total number of companies working with Oyu Tolgoi.
