Local museums open their doors for visitors
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – Oyu Tolgoi has launched a cultural heritage programme involving a large number of activities. A total of seven state museums are to be open free of charge to the public during the Naadam holiday from 10 July to 12 July. Oyu Tolgoi is sponsoring the entire costs of the museum entries for the three days. This activity, entitled 'A journey through the history of the country', encourages Mongolians young and old, to increase education and awareness of Mongolian heritage.
Bogd Khaan Palace, the Art Gallery, the National History Museum, the Victims of Political Persecution Memorial Museum, Choijin Lama Monastery and the Fine Arts Museum for the memory of the Great Zanabazar; will all be open, free of charge to the public, during the festival.
Rio Tinto sponsoring the 'Culture Naadam' event
Sponsored by Rio Tinto, The Arts Council of Mongolia is presenting 'Culture Naadam' at Khui Doloon khudag, 11-12 July. This event has been held for the last five years and includes the 'One day of Mongolia' handmade arts exhibition trade, the 'New Urtuu' exhibition about the ‘ger’ and other national traditions. The 'New Settlement' exhibition includes the Mongolian Red Jamsran and treasures of the different clans and ethnic groups in Mongolia. There are human-sized ankle bones, handmade hats, boots, teapots, cups, saddles, snuff-boxes, traditional utensils, accessories, clothes and toys. The Red Jamsran exhibition will feature Tsam masks and costumes and a demonstration of mask painting techniques. The Clans of Mongolia will present costumes and accessories of the Khalkh, Uzemchin, Torguud, and Uriankhai ethnic groups. 'Awakened steppe', a concert featuring Korean and Mongolian artists, will also be presented as one of the many festival activities.
Oyu Tolgoi sponsors the renovation of the archery field
The three manly sports: wrestling, archery, and horse racing, have been a part of Mongolian culture for centuries. Of the three sports, archery features more national traditions than just competition. As a promoter of national cultural heritage, Oyu Tolgoi has funded the renovation of the archery field.

Oyu Tolgoi celebrates the Naadam festival in Khanbogd soum
An Oyu Tolgoi tradition is to celebrate Naadam at the project site. This year Oyu Tolgoi is observing the holiday on 14 July, the 806th anniversary of the establishment of the Great Mongol Empire and the 91st anniversary of the People’s Revolution. Various activities will be held during the celebration including a parade of 25 contractor companies, concerts, wrestling, open-air stage entertainment, fireworks and a performance of Suld, a group of police officer artists. Up to 10,000 people will be participating in the Naadam events at the Oyu Tolgoi site.
