Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – The Arts Council of Mongolia and Rio Tinto Mongolia has introduced the dance show ‘Spirit’ by Australia’s premier indigenous contemporary arts company Bangarra Dance Theatre today at a press conference held at Mongolnews information centre.
As part of the 40th Anniversary of Australia and Mongolia trade relations, Rio Tinto, as manager of Oyu Tolgoi project, is contributing to the celebration of this successful international partnership by supporting a unique cultural exchange between Mongolia and Australia.
ACM Chairman Jantsannorov said “Bangarra Dance Theatre will perform at the State Opera and Ballet Theatre on 22 and 23 September, 2012. As a part of their visit Bangarra will also conduct professional workshops for students and teachers of the University of Arts and Culture, and professional dancers of local Mongolian dance ensembles”.
Rio Tinto Mongolia spokesperson and Oyu Tolgoi Vice President Houston Spencer further commented “Rio Tinto is proud to be the major sponsor of a night of genuine cultural fusion, showcasing the spirit of two nations. Contemporary Mongolian artists will also perform prior to the Bangarra performance to further connect artists from both countries with the Mongolian public and provide an experience like no other to date”.
“Rio Tinto is proud to support the originality and diversity of contemporary and indigenous art forms and bring to new audiences. This event also celebrates a successful international partnership with the people of Mongolia, Oyu Tolgoi employees, businesses, neighbours and partners”.
The organisers also thanked their partners for their support, especially the Australian Embassy, who has sponsored Ulaanbaatar school #45 as well as the Dance and Music Secondary school – enabling 120 young Mongolians to attend the event.
Bangarra team will be hosting Master classes at Music and Dance College and University of Culture and Arts as part of their visit to Mongolia.
Bangarra Artistic Director Steven Page shared his impression “The production Spirit celebrates various traditional styles of dance taking you to traditional aboriginal dreams and aspirations.
