National Non-Governmental Organizations visit to Oyu Tolgoi Site

On April 19, 2024, Oyu Tolgoi’s CEO Deirdre Lingenfelder, Head and Corporate Affairs, Board of Directors Secretariat, and Acting General Manager External Affairs Ts. Tserenkhuu, General Manager HSES Philip Abraham, General Manager, Communities G. Sugar, and other specialists of environment, Tailings Storage Facility, decarbonization, underground mine, and communities convened with leaders and representatives of major national non-governmental organizations (NGOs) at the Oyu Tolgoi mine complex. The parties facilitated open discussions, focusing on the mine operations and Oyu Tolgoi’s environmental initiatives. Throughout the meeting, participants exchanged opinions and insights, fostering a collaborative atmosphere conducive to meaningful dialogue.

Otgontsetseg, Executive Director of Transparency International NGO E. Munkhjargal, Ariun Suvarga Movement NGO, Member of PWYP Coalition, representative G. Chagnaadorj, Program Officer of Natural Resource Governance Institute International NGO N. Zoljargal, Executive Director of New Initiatives of Administration, Member of PWYP, S. Furthermore, they got acquainted with the operation of the Oyu Tolgoi underground mine and the Tailings Storage Facility. Moreover, they visited a water monitoring point to observe how measurements and 24-hour monitoring are conducted.
It was a productive day during which Oyu Tolgoi and civil society organizations took a significant step forward in their cooperation, aimed at creating prosperity together in the local community and Mongolia as a whole. Regular meetings will be held in the future to delve into specific topics in greater detail.
Oyu Tolgoi maintains close collaboration with civil society organizations to uphold information transparency. This meeting served as a continuation of the open dialogue initiated during the Mining Week 2023 which was held last October. It underscores our commitment to engaging with stakeholders and fostering transparency in our operations.
