Interview: B.Ochirkhuyag “Rio Tinto provides an opportunity to attend lectures by a Nobel Prize Winner”

We interviewed Dr.B.Ochirkhuyag, Director of the Chemistry and Chemical Engineering department at the National University of Mongolia.

Who is the Nobel Prize Winner and what is the topic of the lectures?
Dr. Yuan Tseh Lee, 1986 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, will be giving two lectures one for specialists and one for the general public. His first lecture, ‘Chemical reactions and dynamics of the photochemical process’ will be delivered at the National University of Mongolia (NUM). He will also give a public lecture entitled ‘Stability of Human Society’.

Can you briefly explain about the lectures?
Dr. Lee conducts physical chemical research. His work on chemical reaction kinetics and the photo chemical process and the research of chemical reactions and mechanisms of relatively large molecules using the molecule's rays; won him the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

How beneficial will the lecture be for chemical specialists?
This Nobel Prize is a great award given to scientists in recognition of their contribution to the development of humankind. Attending a lecture of a Nobel laureate is a wonderful opportunity to gain valuable professional knowledge. Scientists will be able to learn about the latest innovations in their field and will also hear about recent achievements and discoveries.

Who is funding the event?
The event is organised by the National University of Mongolia with the encouragement of the Ministry of Education and Science and sponsored by Rio Tinto. They are partnering with our university and supporting the education of our students by creating this opportunity to listen to great lectures by a Nobel laureate. Let me take this moment to express our sincere gratitude to Rio Tinto and the Ministry on behalf of the university team.

When and where will the lecture be delivered? Can people attend the lectures?
The lecture ‘Chemical reactions and dynamics of the photochemical process’ will be delivered at NUM on 13 September 2012 at 10am. The lecture for the public, 'Stability of Human Society', will be delivered at the Opera House on 15 September 2012 at 11am. All interested members of the public are invited to attend.
