Oyu Tolgoi Pre-Employment programme celebrates new graduates

Twenty three Khanbogd citizens graduated from Oyu Tolgoi’s pre-employment course today; a programme designed to provide theoretical and practical training geared towards preparing individuals for work in the modern economy. All participants attained the Australian national standard qualification under the 18 week course, delivered at the Khanbogd soum Technical School and also incorporating a visit to the Oyu Tolgoi mine facility.

Tugs-Oyun, a new graduate from the programme, said “There are many young people in Khanbogd soum who are eager to learn and this programme was very relevant and effective. We’re one step forward in our job-readiness. Oyu Tolgoi’s involvement also helped emphasize working safely, in addition to the other elements of the course.”

Oyu Tolgoi, in the first quarter of 2015, spent US$744,000 on education and training programmes. Oyu Tolgoi also recently entered into a formal Cooperation Agreement with the Umnugobi aimag, Khanbogd soum and other partner communities. The agreement commits all parties to working together and will provide formal mechanisms for the business and community to support regional development.
