National Police Agency, Oyu Tolgoi and Mobicom Corporation partner for live saving road safety initiative

Oyu Tolgoi LLC and Mobicom Corporation have partnered with the National Police Agency to support the “No need to speed” campaign, developed to reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by traffic incidents in Mongolia. The 280 million MNT two year campaign supports the Government’s goal to reduce the number of deaths caused by traffic accidents by 50 percent by 2020.

Every year, around 500 people die as a result of road accidents – 10 percent are children. Road accidents are also contributing to increased number of people, suffering from lifetime of disability. The National Police Agency recognises greater education of pedestrians and drivers is the key to reducing the death and injury rate.
In line with Oyu Tolgoi LLC’s commitment to “Zero Harm” vision, safety is the company’s number one priority. Oyu Tolgoi LLC has been a significant supporter of road safety awareness, not only through education of the company’s own workforce, but also by supporting road safety training delivered to students and children of several high schools in Ulaanbaatar.

CEO of Oyu Tolgoi LLC, Armando Torres noted, “Road safety incidents impact our communities and workplaces. We are delighted to partner with the National Police Agency and Mobicom Corporation to throw our support behind this important campaign”.
Tatsuya Hamada, Chairman and CEO of Mobicom Corporation, said: “Mobicom Corporation has implemented a number of major projects, including Child Helpline 108 for child abuse emergency as well as funding sanitation facilities across the country. This time, we are happy to implement a project to prevent road traffic accidents, minimise accidents leading to mortality and even train road drivers and pedestrians in collaboration with Oyu Tolgoi LLC and the National Police Agency”.
As part of the joint programme, speedometer cameras will be installed along the road to Sainshand, Dornogovi aimag, an area known for vehicles traveling at excess speed, causing high rates of car accidents resulting in serious injuries and deaths.
Taking advantage of the collaborative approach adopted by the organisations from public and private sector, this cooperation aims to showcase the potential possibilities contributing to the elimination of basic social issues while focusing on safety via public and private sector partnerships.
