Mongolia starts to partially supply power to the Oyu Tolgoi mine

The Southern Region Electricity Distribution Network (SREDN) and Oyu

Tolgoi LLC signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) today, 3 September

2020. Minister for Energy Tavinbekh and Oyu Tolgoi LLC chief executive

officer Armando Torres and other officials took part in the signing

ceremony.

The Minister remarked, “The Government of Mongolia has
completed the construction of three 220kV substations and 670-km-long
power transmission lines to supply power to the Southern Region and
other mineral deposits located in the Gobi. The Government has started
to supply power to four 35kV substations with installed capacity of 13
megavolt ampere. This PPA with Oyu Tolgoi LLC will make a positive
impact on the national economy.”

Armando Torres, chief executive officer of Oyu Tolgoi LLC said, “This is

a very important milestone for Oyu Tolgoi LLC, and it demonstrates our

commitment to increasing local content. We will continue to collaborate

with the Ministry of Energy to identify opportunities as per the terms

of the Power Source Framework Agreement and the subsequent amendment

agreement.”
