The opportunity

We are looking for one ( 1) Manager Commercial in Oyu Tolgoi LLC – Power Development department based at Ulaanbaatar.

The primary purpose of the role is to contribute to the development and implementation of the power supply strategy for OT. This involves leading and supporting multiple parallel negotiations and developing commercially robust agreements for execution. The role also requires developing and maintaining the relationships with key stakeholders, including Government of Mongolia officials, Joint Venture partners, international financial institutions, and other commercial parties. In addition, the role is expected to lead and develop other commercial team members.

What the role entails

  • Contribute to the development of the power supply strategy for OT, including development of investment papers and management presentations for use in discussions with OT management and OT Board
  • Lead multiple parallel negotiations and the development of related commercial and legal agreements, and to also support other negotiations led by other commercial team members
  • Develop and maintain the relationships with key stakeholders, including Government of Mongolia officials, Joint Venture partners, international financial institutions, and other commercial parties
  • Prepare briefing and engagement materials for stakeholders engagement meetings
  • Oversee the Commercial Project Management Office (PMO) and manage the long-term planning and implementation of commercial activities for OT power supply options
  • Provide commercial support for relevant tender processes, including subsequent commercial negotiations with bidders
  • Manage relationship with customers, vendors, prime contractors, sub-contractors and other relevant parties, by acting as the central point of contract within assigned projects, and by providing necessary direction to all parties
  • Support local procurement strategy for the project
  • Oversee development and maintenance of the power risk register for the commercial team
  • Be an interface between the commercial team and key internal stakeholders, including OT management, power technical team, and other corporate functions like legal, finance and external affairs in order to ensure alignment between all parties to achieve the common strategic objectives for OT
  • Lead and develop the commercial analysts

What you will need for this role

  • Bachelor degree or above in Finance, Business, Law, Marketing, Procurement, MBA or relevant discipline
  • At least 10 years of experience in relevant field and discipline
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in Mongolian and English is essential
  • Proven experience leading negotiations of complex commercial agreements
  • Proven experience dealing with a wide range of stakeholders with misaligned objectives
  • Excellent organisational, planning and management skills
  • Sound financial management and quality control skills
  • Logical thinking with creative problem-solving ability
  • Ability to develop high quality reports/presentations to facilitate decision making by management
  • Working knowledge of appropriate software tools to produce high quality documents
