Sean Hinton has over 30 years of experience in leadership in investment, growth, and social impact.

Sean first came to Mongolia in 1988 as a British Council scholar studying at the National University of Mongolia and completed his Masters’ dissertation on urtiin duu (Mongolian “long song”) at Cambridge University. In 1997 he was appointed as Honorary Consul-General for Mongolia in Australia while working at McKinsey & Co specialising in strategy and growth. From 2007 he was a senior advisor to Goldman Sachs (Asia) supporting foreign direct investment into Mongolia, and as an advisor to Rio Tinto on regional economic development and local capacity building at Oyu Tolgoi.

Most recently Sean was CEO of the Soros Economic Development Fund (SEDF) at the Open Society Foundations, one of the largest philanthropies in the world. Sean is an Executive-in-Residence and teaches impact investment, at University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School and is on the board of Nature Finance and the Wayfarer Foundation.
