The opportunity
We are looking for a Production Superintendent -Drill and Blast Operations in Oyu Tolgoi LLC Underground Production department based at Oyu Tolgoi Mine site.
The
purpose of this role is to provide supervision and leadership to the
underground drill and blast operations supervisors and mining crews as
part of the underground production team. Reporting to the Manager –
Underground Production, this will be achieved within the OT LLC safety
policies and safe work procedures to achieve the team’s objectives and
targeted plan.
What the role entails:
- Compliance with all OT LLC safety standards and procedures
- Compliance to all statutory explosives blasting requirements as per the Government of Mongolia
- Provide
visible and safety felt leadership within the drill and blast
operations team, and workforce in general, whilst actively developing a
safety culture within the underground team - Safely managing
undercut drilling and blasting activities, and drawbell drilling and
blasting activities to maximise productivity whilst minimising costs and
environmental impact - Performance management of the drill and blast team including training, career development and discipline
- Plan, organise, and allocate resources for the work that is to be performed
- Responsible for work unit training, safety compliance and departmental scheduling and productivity
- Schedules
staff for appropriate work shifts and maintains desired levels of
productivity, quality, cost, services, and methods of performing tasks - Executes short and medium term plans and schedules to meet required production targets and budget
- Coordinates
the assignment of people and equipment to safely, effectively, and
efficiently accomplish the daily, weekly, and monthly plans - Recommends
and/or initiates actions involving establishing job expectations,
providing direction for work priorities and methods of performing tasks - Contributes
to the continuous improvement of the mine and the lowering of costs by
identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement and
innovation - Working collaboratively and effectively with the
expatriate Drill and Blast Operations Superintendent, and expatriate
Drilling and Charging Specialists - Provide feedback on drilling,
charging and blasting operations (Design, equipment, ground conditions)
and working collaboratively with the Technical Services team, and
Production team to ensure continuous improvement - Awareness of Emergency Response protocols & compliance their requirement
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures, proactively promotes a positive safety culture and buddy system
- Mining and Technical education obtained through degrees or diplomas from an academic college or university
- Strong commitment to safety
- Previous underground supervisory experience is highly regarded
- Minimum
5 plus years’ experience in underground drilling and blasting
activities is highly regarded, or otherwise significant practical
underground experience and on the job training - Ability to
develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety
precautions, skilled in safety practices and recognising hazards - Valid driver’s license with no suspension
- Ability to work in a team
- Ability to train and mentor others
- Good interpersonal and communication skills

- Mining and Technical education obtained through degrees or diplomas from an academic college or university
- Strong commitment to safety
- Previous underground supervisory experience is highly regarded
