Engineer Geotechnical – Caving

The opportunity

We are looking for three ( 3) Engineer Geotechnical – Caving in Oyu Tolgoi LLC – Underground operations – Geoscience and Services department based at Oyu Tolgoi mine site with roster of 2 weeks on and 1 week off.

The purpose of this role is to provide engineering services and support on geotechnical activities of the organizational unit in line with the company policies and procedures to achieve the team’s objectives and targeted plan. This role requires spending more than 70% of its working time in the field, both underground and on surface.

What the role entails

• Perform a routine or daily geotechnical inspection to production footprint and pro-actively provide feedback and analysis related to monitoring data and ground observation
• Work closely with Geotechnical Monitoring and Data Management to evaluate the ground response as a result of caving activities
• Assist in reviewing short-term caving sequences, both undercutting and mucking
• Assist in revieweing seismic monitoring data and update sesismic hazard exclusion zone regularly
• Ground support quality inspections and testing to observe the consumption
• Geotechnical instrumentation installation, repair and data capture
• Geotechnical and Geological core logging for purposes of characterization
• Data input into various types of databases and managing data quality from various data sources
• Laser scanning and processing activities associated with the caving development quality management
• Assist in ground support trials and investigations related to ground support innovation
• Perform caving – geotechnical inspections and damage mapping of production footprint area
• Schdule and monitor the repair works timely to prevent severe damage on the production footprint area
• Managing own career by being accountable for one’s behavior, performance and development.
• Sustaining a learning environment throughout the team to ensure knowledge is shared and transferred throughout the team

What you will need for this role

• Undergraduate or equivalent or higher education obtained through degrees or diplomas from academic college or universities
• Civil Engineer, Geological Engineering or Mining Engineer related disciplines- Other Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, etc.) disciplines may be considered with sufficient mining experience
• At least 3 years relevant experience, or significant practical experience and on the job training.
• Experience in Block Caving Mine Operation will be an advantage”
• Able to interpret geological information from drilling logs, field mapping or other data types in order to develop an understanding of the rock masses characteristics

Familiar with various methods of data collection and the data types

• Able to use standard geotechnical software such as DIPS, UNWEDGE and RS2 or equivalent
