E.Batkhuu’s precision, prompt delivery and his ability to act on advice and suggestions for product improvement gave Oyu Tolgoi the confidence to trust him with more orders. Over the last two years they have sent him many orders to make large steel boards and home stoves. He has increased his employee numbers, now providing three people with permanent jobs.
E.Batkhuu is a welder, carpenter and small business owner in Dalanzadgad, the main city of South Gobi. In recognition of his business excellence, Oyu Tolgoi awarded him Supplier of the Month, for June 2013.
Back in 2011, Oyu Tolgoi was looking for a company to produce signs for the mine and the roads leading to the mine. They already had a company to print the signs, but they needed a company to make the steel posts. Oyu Tolgoi Procurement department put sign printer, Setgeshgui hoich, in contact with local South Gobi welder and carpenter, E.Batkhuu. Oyu Tolgoi provided advice on road signage, all the specifications, standards and requirements for the signs, even an example for them to copy. And so the foundation was laid for the permanent local procurement of new steel hardware in Umnugovi (South Gobi) aimag.

His business has grown and he has been able to purchase electric cutters, drills and a paint compressor that allow him to further expand his business. He is now taking orders for container lining and fine steelwork.
E.Batkhuu enrolled in training courses, provided by Oyu Tolgio at their Business Development centre, in accounting, marketing and safety. This training has not only increased his knowledge, but also enables him to pass on the knowledge to his employees. He said, “I am also enrolled in the Oyu Tolgoi supplier promotion loan programme. This loan provides me with the extra finance I need to take on large orders and expand my business.”
