The opportunity

We are looking for one (1) Technician Geotechnical in Underground – Geoscience and Services department based at Oyu Tolgoi mine with the roster of 14 days on and 14 days off.

The purpose of this role is to provide engineering support on geotechnical activities of the organizational unit in line with the company policies and procedures to achieve the team’s objectives and targeted plan.

What the role entails

  • Assist in rock mass characterization and mapping activities- Geotechnical and Geological
  • Assist in developing schedules for projects managed by the Geosciences team
  • Geotechnical and Geological core logging for purposes of characterization
  • Data input into various types of databases and managing data quality from various data sources
  • Laser scanning and processing activities associated with the lateral development quality management
  • Assist in ground support trials and investigations related to ground support innovation
  • Perform geotechnical inspections and damage mapping of infrastructure
  • Work with own team and peers in the mine environment to ensure work is done safely and in the most efficient manner.

What you will need for this role

  • Geological Engineering or Mining Engineer related disciplines – Other Engineering disciplines may
  • Significant practical experience and/or on the job training will be looked upon favorably.
  • The role requires good knowledge in Additional qualification in Civil Engineer, Geological Engineering or Mining Engineer related disciplines – Other Engineering disciplines will be commended and will be an advantage..
  • At least 3 years relevant experience, or otherwise the significant practical experience and on the job training
  • Prior mining industry experience in a similar role will be looked upon favorable.
