The opportunity 

We are looking for three (3) Specialist Portfolio Study in Oyu Tolgoi LLCSite Infrastructure and Services – Sustaining Capital Department based Ulaanbaatar Office with 5 days on and 2 days off.

This role involves leading, planning, and coordinating the study stages of capital or closure projects within the organization, covering all technical, commercial, and license-to-operate aspects. The individual is responsible for ensuring the safe and successful delivery of portfolio studies and their associated business cases to support company’s capital planning efforts.

Candidates must have relevant expertise and experience in their technical and professional discipline. They are expected to address a range of challenges using established procedures and solutions while operating with minimal guidance and direction.

What the role entails:

This role is responsible for the comprehensive planning, execution, stakeholder engagement, and reporting of portfolio studies. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Defining study scopes, risks, milestones, and budgets based on business needs, project and study requirements, and stakeholder expectations, ensuring delivery within approved parameters.
  • Managing multiple work streams, coordinating stakeholders, and overseeing study advisors and contractors to meet study scope, timeline, cost, and quality standards.
  • Developing detailed plans and estimates for complete project execution.
  • Providing expert technical guidance and support to study stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with financial experts to perform high-level financial analyses, including cash flow projections, return on investment (ROI), and net present value (NPV) calculations.
  • Developing and implementing a robust stakeholder engagement plan throughout the study lifecycle, fostering strong relationships with stakeholders (such as project sponsors, asset owners, and cross-functional teams) to foster collaboration, decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Preparing comprehensive reports and presentations summarizing study outcomes, tailored to various levels of reporting.
  • Monitoring study performance, analysing data for reporting, and promptly addressing any issues to align with business needs and requirements.

What you will need for this role

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field. An MBA and project management certifications are preferred, in addition to an engineering background.
  • Solid understanding of project and study management methodologies and tools.
  • Proven experience in managing studies and projects, with over five years of experience focusing on capital and closure projects.
  • A solid background in engineering, engineering studies, and construction projects within the construction, mining, or resource sectors.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with various stakeholders, including project teams and cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and a strategic mindset.
  • Strong ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities efficiently.
  • Experience with SharePoint, Microsoft tools, and project management software, used in the industry (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project, Power BI, etc.), as well as other analysis and reporting tools.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations, sustainability practices, and safety standards in the mining or construction industries.
  • Knowledge of local and national regulations and compliance standards in the mining, resource, engneering and construction sectors.
  • Proficiency in both speken and written English.
