The opportunity
We are looking for one (1) Senior Geotechnical Engineer in Oyu Tolgoi LLC – Technical and Integrated Planning – Mine Technical Services department based at Oyu Tolgoi mine site and Ulaanbaatar office 7/7/5/2 bases.
The purpose of this role is involves collecting and analyzing geotechnical data for outcomes targeted by the
Geotechnical Superintendent and Lead Geotechnical Engineer. Development of reporting and analytical skills will be required as this role progresses. Work completed in this role has impacts the short-term success of Oyu Tolgoi and it is critical that work is completed in a safe, professional and timely manner.
What the role entails
- Stability assessments, rock mass assessments and develop alternative slope hazard mitigation requirements as required or instructed;
- Ensure mine designs and the implementation of mine designs complies with the Geotechnical design parameters
- Coordinate the collection of rock samples for testing, including; site selection and sample preparation under guidance from the Geotechnical Superintendent or Lead Geotechnical Engineer;
- Contribute to ensure compliance to the Slope and Dump Management Plan;
- Assist in the review and update of the Slope/Dump Management Plan under direction from the Geotechnical Superintendent
- Assist with QA/QC on all data collection and maintenance of databases;
- Identify best practice through experience, diverse learning opportunities, and accepting guidance and mentorship from the Geotechnical Superintendent or Lead Geotechnical Engineer, and;
- Participate in HSEC related activities by anticipating current and future risks, and setting and monitoring objectives to ensure standards are met.
- As a Geotechnical Engineer at the Oyu Tolgoi Open Pit, you will also be required to fulfill other responsibilities which relate to the focus areas of collaboration, people, strategic effectiveness and projects, systems and processes, such as:
- Collaborating with own team and peers in the mine environment to ensure effective application and dissemination of best practice, and;
- Contributing to decisions based on an understanding of the rock mechanical behaviours of Oyu Tolgoi in order to contribute to the safe and effective development of the resource.
What you will need for this role
- Diploma or certificate in Geoscience or relevant discipline is preferable
- At least 3 years of Geology, Operation or relevant role experience is required
- Experience in Mining software such as MS3D,Vulcan,
- English competency (both written and oral) is essential.
- Good knowledge and usage of MS office software
- Strong demonstrated commitment to safety
- Good data analysis skills
- Experience in a complex fast-paced environment, positive attitude and willingness to take on challenges
- Logical thinking with creative problem-solving ability
