The opportunity

We are looking for One (1)  Principal Advisor Project Management in Oyu Tolgoi LLCUnderground Operational Readiness Department based Oyu Tolgoi Site with 7 days on and 7 days off.

The purpose of this role is to lead and oversee large-scale mining projects from initiation through to completion, ensuring that they are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Specifically, this role will be leading the “P1&P2 Caves” and “Ramp-up to 95ktpd” underground mining projects.

With a strong emphasis on Project Management and Underground Mining disciplines, this role ensures the implementation of standardized project management processes, effective governance, risk management, and continuous improvement.

What the role entails:

Project Leadership & Oversight for the “P1&P2 Caves” and “Ramp-up to 95ktpd” projects.

  • Lead and manage the full lifecycle of these mining projects, including planning, execution, and commissioning.
  • Oversee project scope, schedule, and budget, ensuring alignment with the broader strategic objectives of the UG Mine unit.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams and stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and collaboration across multiple areas (engineering, procurement, technical services, construction, operations, finance etc.).
  • Implement and monitor project governance and PMO best practices, ensuring that all processes are followed for successful project delivery.

PMO Methodology & Standards:

  • Support the development of standardized project management processes and tools, for an underground mining context, ensuring that all projects adhere to OT’s frameworks and methodologies.
  • Conduct regular project reviews and audits to ensure compliance with the established governance framework, risk management processes, and performance metrics.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all project activities, including project plans, schedules, budgets, change of management reports, etc., in accordance with company policies.

Budget & Resource Management:

  • Lead resource management, ensuring the allocation of necessary manpower, equipment, and materials to meet mining project objectives.
  • Oversee the preparation of the UG Mine budgets (projects and operations) and ensure they meet the company standards.
  • Monitor expenditures/cash-outflow and drive cost-effective procurement and resource utilization within the UG Mine departments.

Risk/Change Management:

  • Proactively identify mining project risks/issues, developing mitigation strategies and contingency plans.
  • Monitor and report on potential risks related to project timelines, costs, resource availability, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders to manage project’s changes-of-scope and adapt to shifting priorities or challenges.

Stakeholder Management & Communication:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders relevant to the “P1&P2 Caves” and “Ramp-up to 95ktpd” projects, including senior leadership, UG Mine department managers and contractors.
  • Provide regular project updates and reports to senior management, highlighting project performance, risks, issues, and any corrective actions needed.
  • Lead the coordination of stakeholder meetings, ensuring alignment on project goals, timelines, and expectations.

Project Performance Monitoring (Projects Control)

  • Track project performance against established schedules and KPI’s, and report on progress regularly.
  • Ensure effective resource allocation and utilize project management software tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) for tracking, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the Project Management team by identifying lessons learned from past projects and implementing best practices in future initiatives.

What you will need for this role

  • Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Engineering, Mining or Business Administration or equivalent technical discipline
  • Project Management (PMP or Lean Portfolio Management) preferable
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Project, etc.) and Primavera 6
  • Experience with SAP
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in project management
