The opportunity
We are looking for one ( 1) Lead Geotechnical Engineer in Oyu Tolgoi LLC – Technical and Integrated Planning – Mine Technical Services department based at Oyu Tolgoi mine site with roster 14 days on and 14 days off.
The Geotechnical Lead Engineer also plays a crucial role in providing technical expertise and guidance to the team, coordinating with other departments, and liaising with external stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulations and best practices. Overall, their objective is to optimize operational efficiency while minimizing risks associated with slope instability. It also covers the collecting and analysing of geotechnical data for outcomes targeted by the Geotechnical Superintendent.
What the role entails
- Overseeing the identification, assessment, and management of D3 hazards in the Open Pit area.
- Developing and implementing strategies to mitigate risks associated with slope instability, rockfall, and other geotechnical hazards.
- Assist and Coordinate GRT (Geotech Response Team) meetings, ensuring effective communication and collaboration among team members.
- Assist to coordinate SRB (Slope Review Board) meeting and responsible for slope performance, conformance and related issues are discussed, and decisions are made.
- Managing Geotech controls for drill and blasts operations, ensuring compliance with safety standards and operational requirements.
- Overseeing Diamond and Depressurization drilling contract management, including contractor selection, performance evaluation, and contract administration.
- Taking charge of slope monitoring activities, including the installation and maintenance of monitoring equipment, data collection, and analysis.
- Verify Final Wall Assessments to evaluate the stability and integrity of pit walls, providing recommendations for risk mitigation and remedial actions as necessary.
- Developing and maintenance of Geotechnical Systems
- Participate in HSEC related activities by anticipating current and future risks, and setting and monitoring objectives to ensure standards are met.
- Assist the Geotechnical Engineers, Senior Geotechnical Engineers and Technicians in all aspects of geotechnical programs when required.
What you will need for this role
- Undergraduate or equivalent or higher education obtained through degrees or diplomas from academic college or universities.
- Geosciences or related disciplines
- Experience typically achieved through graduate qualifications and at least 7 years relevant experience
- Can process the works along safety standards and procedures
- Developed soft skills including teamwork and communication skills
- Requires intermediate and/or above intermediate English skill
