The opportunity

We are looking for one (1) Lead Engineer in Oyu Tolgoi LLC, Underground ELHL Construction department based on OT Site. This role reports to Engineering Superintendent.

The purpose of this role is to lead multidiscipline construction engineers when providing engineering services to Underground Construction and Mining operations.

What the role entails

  • Manage daily activities and planning of the work for discipline engineers, draftsperson, and report to Engineering superintendent
  • Provide technical support to discipline engineers, Construction, Project control and other mining stakeholders.
  • Assist in development of the Engineers technical, soft skills through in the field coaching and on job training.
  • Initiate and improve engineering procedures, workflows and monitor implementation.
  • Reviews Engineering related documentation for adequacy and completeness and initiates appropriate corrective actions.
  • Undertake and review engineering design, shop drawing, calculation, MTO in accordance with OT specification and building codes, best practice.
  • Liaise with Package engineers on providing technical support and review construction material specification for procurement packages and participate bid evaluation review process to attain successful material procurement.
  • Lead implementation of OT Management of change for engineering changes and deliverables.
  • Participate routine construction walkdown, inspect field installation and contractors work area to ensure work performed as per OT safety requirement.
  • Participate in design and construction risk assessments processes to ensure that planned work meets engineering and safety requirement.
  • Provide input and liaise with project stakeholders to ensure adequate planning for all construction activities is in place, and reporting deviations to plan.
  • Liaises with the contractor, SME to support field engineering queries, issues and changes requested by Contractors.
  • Liaises with the project QA/QC teams to ensure that all Government and Authorities requirements are satisfied.
  • Identifies changes in engineering and construction methodology that significantly improves execution outcomes.
  • Prepares daily and weekly reports covering status of activities, progress/performance, and emerging issues.

What you will need for this role

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Mining engineering.
  • A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in engineering across multiple disciplines throughout the construction project and a record of executing work safely.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in Underground Mine Construction, Planning, Operation, and field experience highly regarded.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills and leading a team effectively.
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite, AutoDesk AEC, Deswik, regarded.
  • Excellent personal time management and attitude – Positive attitude and willingness to take on challenges.
  • English competency in both written and oral is essential.
