The opportunity

We are looking for one (1) Lead Construction in Oyu Tolgoi LLCUG ELHL Construction Department based Oyu Tolgoi Site with roster of 14 days on and 14 days off. This role is 1-years fixed term contract.

We are looking for a Lead Construction to join our Underground Operations Team delivering the world-class underground mine in Mongolia. This is a key role within the Owner’s team with the responsibility for the safe and timely construction of the Cave Production Infrastructure inclusive of grizzly’s, ore bins with wear liners, truck loading chutes, extraction level and haulage level concrete roadways, services reticulation and draw point steel brow set installations. The is role is akin to a Client Construction Foreman responsible for supporting the coordination of contractor teams to deliver the relevant scopes of work in accordance with the project plans and specifications.  Based underground in the field and covering multiple work locations and contractor scopes across Day and Night shifts. The role shall ensure that the construction contractors are compliant with the Oyu Tolgoi health and safety systems and procedures, ensuring construction activities are completed to the required standard, quality and international best practices.

What the role entails:

  • Oversight of the field execution and safe delivery of assigned construction packages through to handover to commissioning teams
  • Overseeing and monitor the performance of the works contractor(s) to ensure compliance with schedule, cost and quality requirements
  • Ensuring that the construct is built as per the design
  • Engaging with the owners and contractors to ensure construction activities are performed safely and in accordance with Rio Tinto standards and procedures
  • Undertaking field and engineering documentation audits to ensure compliance with Legislative requirements and Rio Tinto project engineering guidance and standards
  • Providing technical support on engineering matters, building on and sharing of the lessons learned
  • Participating in design and constructability reviews to identify opportunities to improve execution and/or operations of the facilities
  • Maintaining relationships with key stakeholders to drive a culture of collaboration, participation and improvement
  • Coordinating with the Mining team to address interface issues and support the operational readiness activities required to transition from construction through to operations

What you will need for this role

  • Relevant education obtained through degrees, diplomas and /or certificates from academic college or universities.
  • Relevant Engineers or qualification is preferable.
  • At least 8 years relevant experience, including but not limited to:
  • Previous in-depth operational experience in mine development activities
  • Field Underground mining experience is a definite asset
  • At least 8 years of experience in the execution of construction projects with demonstrated experience relevant to Underground Infrastructure Construction scopes.
  • Experience with all aspects of construction including Civil, SMP, E&I and commissioning.
  • Have experience coordination and managing work place interactions between different work groups including conflict resolution.
  • Experience in managing a multi discipline team and third-party execution contractors
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of an integrated delivery team
  • An ability to work autonomously within a highly complex project delivery environment
  • A can-do attitude that seeks to provide solutions and a desire for continuous improvement.
  • Underground caving mine construction experience
  • Safety focused
