Safety
Support Services Mongolia experience a significant increase in the numbers of injuries and near misses in 2017. They developed a comprehensive safety recovery plan. As a result, SSM has had no recordable injuries since the end of January 2018 and has reduced its All Injury Frequency Rate (AIFR) from 1.03 to 0.13 at the end of July 2018.

People
No women are known to be involved in Mine Rescue in Mongolia, having, by law, not being able to work in underground until very recently. However, thanks to Inclusion and Diversity in Underground Mine Rescue initiative led by Underground Emergency Rescue Team & Mine Rescue team, our mining engineer Sh.Davaasuren has become the First Mongolian Female Mine Rescuer at Oyu Tolgoi. This marks an important milestone not only for women of Oyu Tolgoi but for all the women in Mongolian mining sector which has predominantly male workforce.

Cash
Two initiatives have been implemented by the Underground Integration Procurement team focussed on increasing local content for Drill Consumables, HME Spares and Ground Support materials. The team successfully negotiated with several suppliers who committed to supply materials from warehouses established in Khanbogd. In the inventory value reduction equals US$1 million since July 2017 and cost per drill meter for Underground drill consumables has been reduced 2 times since Oct 2016. More than US$2 billion in commitments to national companies has been made, exceeding the total national procurement target.

Partnership
Oyu Tolgoi has formed strong partnership with German Corporation for International Corporation (GIZ), the Gobi Oyu Development Support Fund, the Governor of Umnugobi and the International Finance Corporation to strengthen the small and medium enterprises in Mongolia. The efforts to bolster the Mongolian SMEs includes establishments of Capacity Building Centres in Umnugovi province and Ulaanbaatar city, organizations of trainings on HSE, business integrity, financial literacy, business management, supply chain and others.

Growth
The Underground tag board is one of the key safety control mechanisms to ensure people’s safety in underground during shift change, blasting and in case of emergency. With this joint initiative, which was carried out over 2017 & 2018, Underground Shaft Operations & Underground Logistics and Oyu Tolgoi Underground IS&T teams have greatly improved the existing system by integrating new technologies including electronic tagboard, RFID tag, turnstile, swiping system and CCTV monitoring.
